Winter garbage services and washroom closures

Garbage service and washroom access will be reduced in quiet park locations where the services see minimal use over winter. In most cases, accessing the service you need will mean walking to another location within the park.

This year was our busiest year in Whistler parks so we:

  • increased staff for all parks,
  • packed out more garbage,
  • cleaned more washrooms,
  • and paid more for important supplies, like garbage bags and toilet paper.

Garbage volume decreases approximately 83 per cent between summer and winter. By increasing garbage bin service, filling dog poop bag dispensers and cleaning washrooms more frequently during the summer period, we ensure our community gets what it needs when it needs it most.

Please use the next available garbage can or washroom this winter, and remember to pack your garbage in and out.

Use of Whistler’s parks and outdoor spaces

We are updating our bylaw on Whistler’s parks and public outdoor spaces to ensure these areas are used safely and respectfully by everyone. The new bylaw will be more comprehensive than our current bylaw. It will cover all the public outdoor space we manage including parks, trails, beaches, municipal roads, school grounds, sidewalks, plazas and playgrounds.

The bylaw will include clearer rules for e-bikes, motorized skateboards, e-scooters and drones. We plan to introduce stronger safety measures and higher fines for violations.

Read the December 16, 2025 report to Committee of the Whole on the proposed bylaw.
