Funding to support community services and amenities
The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is receiving $4,962,000 from the provincial government’s B.C. Growing Communities Fund. The fund distributes a one-time total of $1 billion in grants to all 188 B.C. municipalities and regional districts to address the needs of their growing communities.
“This grant furthers Council’s strategic priorities and increases our ability to make an impact on core areas of our community’s needs,” says Mayor Jack Crompton. “Thank you to the Province of British Columbia for this important investment in Whistler.”
The fund focuses on investments in infrastructure and amenities which helps communities keep pace with growth. In the coming weeks, Council will be reviewing these requirements and making decisions on how best to allocate funds based on the funding requirements. The RMOW will be required to report on fund use as part of our annual financial statements audit.
The Growing Communities Fund grants are allocated to municipalities and regional districts based on population size and growth between 2016 and 2021, using BC Stats data. The funding is expected to arrive at the end of this month. Read more about the Fund.
