Poet’s Pause is part of the Valley Trail series of public art projects commissioned by the Resort Municipality of Whistler. Through an open competition and juried selection process, Whistler resident Joan Baron was selected for her creative, multi- faceted Poet’s Pause proposal. The proposal involved sculpture, place making and creation of an ongoing poetry competition.
Lost in Sound is one of two sculptures that make up Poet’s Pause. The timber frame structure is at the shore in Alta Lake Park. The steel chimes inspire interaction and the associated sounds resonate with the lake.
A poetry competition has been staged on three occasions to commission poems inspired by this place. The current selection is displayed by the sculpture. Poems created for Lost in Sound respond to the theme of Listening. The theme for Lakeside Couple is Togetherness.
