This totem was formerly located one floor below in the Art Gallery Row (located in the Hilton Resort). Following a renovation of the space, the Totem was relocated to a more public place at Mountain Square in Whistler Village.
This piece was a private sector art commission, and the Resort Municipality of Whistler is not aware of its origin beyond the description provided on the sign.
The totem was created by Gitxsan artist Ken Mowatt (Mass Liki’insxw). It depicts animals from the region. The sign reveals their symbolic significance in First Nations culture.
