The Resort Municipality of Whistler’s (RMOW) Emergency Planning Committee has reviewed a Multimodal Evacuation Plan co-authored by the RMOW and District of Squamish. The Multimodal Evacuation Plan was endorsed by Whistler’s Mayor and Council at the regular meeting of Council on May 14, 2019.
Whistler’s evacuation plan has been professionally developed by emergency planning experts to ensure that every single person can be evacuated safely from the community if an evacuation order is issued.
Overview
The Evacuation Plan was a joint initiative between the District of Squamish (DOS) and the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW). The plan outlines exactly how emergency officials would orderly evacuate residents and visitors if an evacuation order for the entire community was issued. It includes a detailed list of transportation options and possibilities for residents and visitors for those with and without their own transportation, time estimates to evacuate neighbourhood by neighbourhood and how long a community-wide evacuation would take. The plan looks at traffic control and auxiliary transportation options for the community. The purpose of the plan is to lay out how to safely and efficiently evacuate every last resident and visitor if there were to be an evacuation order in Whistler.
